Negotiating the journey of recovery with Marion Short

Whilst it is almost Christmas – it has been a difficult and challenging month and our thoughts are with the many people throughout Australasia that are affected by the bushfire emergencies and the White Island tragedy – as well as our emergency responders.  Many of our IAP2 family are working hard with communities to support them in negotiating their journey of recovery – we are thinking of you too.

We thought that it might be helpful for us to share ‘A Guide to Engaging in Disaster Recovery’, it was released in 2015 by IAP2 Australasia along with Anne Leadbeater OAM and an amazing working group of IAP2 members.

This guide is intended for anyone involved in a disaster recovery situation – community leaders, politicians, engagement practitioners, workers from specialised agencies, those without prior recover experience or for experienced professionals working in a community they are unfamiliar with. The content focuses on the ‘human’ element of recovering, examining the importance of effective engagement, and identifying useful strategies that maximise the potential for sustained, strategic disaster recovery that is genuinely community-led.

The guide is free and can be downloaded here. Please feel free to share it.

Back to Christmas…..I hope you all get to spend precious time with those who are special to you, and the amazing gifts of good conversation, good food, good rest, good music and good times.

Til 2020,
Marion
