Gerard Reilly
Director As Director of one of Australia’s leading communications firms, Gerard has more than 10 years experience in strategic communications, public relations and community engagement. His passion lies in improving the way organisations communicate and interact with their publics.
His speciality is working with large and complex organisations to create frameworks to improve their community and stakeholder engagement practices. Gerard recently completed a comprehensive framework for TransLink – the Queensland State Government body responsible for managing public transport for more than 2 million residents in the South East Queensland region. He has also worked extensively with local Councils in developing engagement strategies for infrastructure and social planning projects. Anne Pattillo Anne has been working as a consultant in her own business in the areas of training, organisation development, business planning and project management since 1989. Anne’s background includes work as an organisational change project manager, training and development manager and business planner. Anne's professional training has been undertaken through both a degree in management, certificate in public participation and a series of certificated and short-course programmes. Her key skills and experience relevant to this project include: 15 years consulting experience in government, business and community sectors; exceptional process facilitator; skilled public participation practitioner; experienced manager of future search conferences and Open Space Technology planning and needs analysis processes; extensive experience as a leader of change in organisations and communities; insightful strategic planner; functional and training needs analysis; well developed professional, local government and government agency relationships; experience in training and working with Maori and people from other cultural groups. Margaret Harvie Margaret has led public participation projects for major infrastructure projects throughout Australia and in particular in NSW and Queensland over the past 12 years. She has worked in most areas including mining, transport, roads, water resources, waste water, power and waste. In addition to her skills in community engagement for infrastructure she has been involved with social impact assessment and consultations with Queensland and NSW Indigenous communities. She has always been committed to the development of the profession and its practitioners. She was a member of the IAP2 International Board for 4 years and the former Deputy Chair of IAP2 Australasia for 5 years. She currently works nationally as a trainer and public participation consultant. In the past twelve months she has conducted training including for Zinifex Mine (Tasmania), CP Mining (Western Australia), Stanwell Corporation, Tarong Energy, Zero Gen, SEITA, Victorian Department of Infrastructure, Queensland Department of Transport, NSW Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation, NSW Roads and Traffic Authority, SANTOS, Sydney Airports Corporation, Leightons, Baulderstone Hornibrook, Abigroup and Sydney Water. The strength of what she brings to IAP2 training is her ability to draw from her extensive experience as a practitioner on literally hundreds of consultations. In addition to her current practice as a trainer she actively continues to lead teams involved with major projects that plan for the involvement of the public in construction, impact assessment and submission processes. Barbara Chappell Barbara is an experienced community engagement practitioner and IAP2 licensed trainer, with a Masters in Conflict Management and a background in the development and implementation of community engagement framework models. She has recently worked with the Local Government Association in South Australia to research and develop a community engagement model framework for use throughout Councils in South Australia. Her work in this area gained her the 2008 LGMA Leadership and Management Excellence Award. Barbara’s work with the City of Onkaparinga over the past two years on the development and implementation of a community engagement framework was awarded the IAP2 Core Values Award 2007 for the Best Policy Framework. She is experienced in a range of interesting and innovative community engagement techniques and an engaging facilitator with a passion for working with internal and external communities. Her mediation skills were developed through pro-bono court work involving small claims and resolving resident disputes in local government. Barbara is the SA IAP2 Regional Coordinator and can be contacted for information on local network meetings. When not tied to a laptop or working in the training room, Barbara likes to spend time with her husband Brenton at their beach shack and looking forward to the time when her grown up children return from travelling the world with all their stories about their adventures. |

Vivien Twyford
Vivien has a social science degree, a postgraduate degree in management as well as Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. She has 18 years experience as a community engagement practitioner and 15 years as a workplace trainer, and is also an accredited mediator. Vivien has assisted clients in government, local government and private practice to plan and implement community engagement processes. Vivien has been a member of IAP2 since 1997, on its Board between 2001 and 2005, and President in 2004. She has assisted with the ongoing development of the IAP2 Certificate material and has been delivering IAP2 Certificate training since 2002. Vivien really enjoys delivering the IAP2 certificate course and seeing participants better understand the important principles that underlie good practice, and so improve their practice. Vivien has run her own consultancy business for almost 20 years and have been a director of 2 other commercial organisations. Vivien understands the tensions that exist between meeting commercial outcomes and delivering good practice community engagement. She believes and tries to live the Core Values of Public Participation and the Code of Ethics articulated by IAP2, and tries to model the attitudes and skills she teaches when she does her work. Vivien has delivered IAP2 training in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada and the US. |

Max Hardy
Max is a Senior Consultant, starting with Twyford's in 1997. Completing studies in Social Welfare and Social Studies, Max specialises in community engagement, facilitation, needs based social planning, business planning and program evaluation. As well as providing consulting services Max facilitates training in many of these areas. With a particular interest in participatory democracy, Max has developed innovative models for community engagement for a range of projects. He has presented papers on these models at various conferences and is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Sydney. In August 2005 Max played a role in the preparation of the Brisbane Declaration on Engaging Communities to be presented to the United Nations. Max is a licensed Trainer of the IAP2 Certificate Course, and has delivered training in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Recently appointed as a Master Trainer for IAP2, Max co-delivered the first IAP2 Training Academy in Alberta Canada (January 2005). Max is also a member of the Australasian Facilitators Network and the Australasian Evaluation Society. |

John Dengate
John is an experienced facilitator and a member of the Australian Facilitators Network. He holds a Bachelor of Metallurgy, and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. He is a community engagement practitioner and a licensed trainer for IAP2 and has delivered the Certificate Course in Public Participation in Australia, New Zealand and the USA. He also attended the 2005 IAP2 Conferences in Sydney and Portland. John is a member of the ralian Facilitators Network and the Society for Organisational Learning. |
