Bliss Browne - IAP2 Masterclass
Brisbane 2 December 2008
Browne’s questions led her to convene a group of 65 experienced community builders in Chicago for a 2-day conference in October 1991. Together, they explored "Faithful Economic Imagination", or how individuals might collectively steward the city's resources to sustain life for everyone.

Drinks, nibbles, and pizza are on the agenda
The training program was developed to meet the needs of IAP2 members. IAP2 trainers worked with practitioners from around the world to develop foundational tools that transcend national and cultural boundaries. Even advanced practitioners will find useful techniques to assist in working with the public and clients to establish effective public participation programs.
All three courses are presented in an experiential learning environment that provides students with the opportunity to explore their own public participation challenges with their instructor and peers. Interactive exercises and practical tips are used to enliven the basic theory and reference materials presented throughout each module and reinforce skills that participants can put to immediate use.

The International Association for Public Participation invites you to join them for an ‘informal’ networking and story sharing session.
By 'informal', we mean that there is no charge to attend and participants are to purchase their own refreshments. Sessions will be conducted simultaneously across the state in various locations where volunteers have generously offered their time to assist. The sessions will be facilitated by the event coordinators and notes will be taken on the discussions to load onto the IAP2 website.
These sessions will be a wonderful opportunity to share stories, tips and tricks with like-minded people. Watch this space for the next date and locations of our informal meetings.

Appreciative Inquiry and Strategic Planning
Barbara Lewis is an inspirational community engagement practitioner and licensed IAP2 Master Trainer with a passionate commitment to the Appreciative Inquiry approach.
A peak experience of Barbara’s career was the Focus on Longmont project, which used appreciative inquiry and deliberative dialogue in developing a citywide strategic plan. Longmont is located near Denver in Colorado (USA). Barbara’s outstanding work in leading the Focus on Longmont project was recognized with the IAP2 Core Values Award for Project of the Year in 2006.
Barbara shared the compelling Longmont story and anecdotes about the Appreciative Inquiry process at this one-off opportunity in Brisbane.
You were invited to attend a free networking event with IAP2 Queensland. The evening had a presentation and discussion on the Brisbane City Council's Community Engagement Strategy.
IAP2 hosted a world cafe discussion to consider the 2020 Summit process.
We explored:
- the process for the 2020 Summit and how it could have been improved
- ways in which the outcomes from the summit could be used to improve public policy

How do we connect with the 99% of community that doesn't get involved?
We ran simultaneous events for this informal session in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
Attendees participated in a conversation with internationally acclaimed long-range planner and architect of public process, Steven Ames. Steven has worked extensively with communities in the U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand and has many observations to share about these engagement processes: the similarities and the differences. Throughout our conversation, Steven will draw upon a number of case studies, offer a range of tips and techniques, and highlight what to do when things occasionally go wrong.
This event was co-hosted with the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (SEQ Division).
This 1 day conference explored the practices of impact assessment and community consultation. This conference was the first of its kind and will provide practitioners from both fields the opportunity to hear from industry experts through keynote presentations, case studies and workshops.
Members can access the presentations from our members only resource section.
