IAP2 NSW Leadership Breakfast
IAP2 members and friends and guest speaker Deirdre O'Donnell, NSW Information Commissioner met at the IAP2 NSW Leadership Breakfast. Deirdre shared the experience of the Office of the Information Commissioner NSW following the introduction of the new Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) on 1 July 2010.

Climate Change Series - Communicating for Action with Kath Fisher
Presented by IAP2, Australian Science Communicators, Sydney Environmental Educators Network and the Australian Association for Environmental Education. Kath presented an interactive workshop on communicating for action, drawing on her research interest and practical skills in community consultation processes to deliver a hands on tools focused approach to engagement with a particular focus on groups who are traditionally disengaged.

Climate Change Series - Communicating the Story with Sohail Inayatullah
Presented by IAP2, Australian Science Communicators, Sydney Environmental Educators Network and the Australian Association for Environmental Education. The session provided the practical tools and ideas to assist in responding to climate scepticism and supporting others to deal and act upon the findings of climate science.
Climate Change Series - Communicating the Sciene with Jenni Metcalfe
Presented by IAP2, Australian Science Communicators, Sydney Environmental Educators Network and the Australian Association for Environmental Education. This interactive workshop allowed participants to gain hands on skills and understanding on how to best communicate the science of climate change to sceptics or deniers, governments, businesses and the general public.

Playback Theatre: Engaging, Entertaining, Unforgettable
IAP2 members, friends and Playback Theatre Sydney joined for a night of laughter, surprises and exploration as they used theatre to gain an alternate perspective on the challenges and successes for engagement and consultation practitioners.
Playback Theatre Sydney takes stories and improvisation and creates dynamic and entertaining theatre using drama, music and movement. Playback Theatre draws on the tradition of oral storytelling by inviting the audience to tell their own stories and then watch as they are instantly ‘played back’ onstage. Playback can be used as an innovative engagement tool, helping groups to explore issues and bring people together by capturing personal stories and opening communication channels.

Graphic Recording 101....New ideas for engagement and networking event
An interactive evening of Graphic Recording 101 where participants:
- Heard experienced practitioners share how graphic recording has been used successfully in engagement programs.
- Saw Graphic Recording artiste Rebecca Lazenby in action.
- Asked questions and discussed hot tips to make their next agenda and materials ‘pop’!

IAP2 Vic Christmas Networking Drinks
IAP2 members and their friends came together to enjoy some drinks and tasty food at one of Melbourne’s delightful roof terraces. At the lovely Campari House in Melbourne’s CBD, we reflected on achievements this year, shared some stories and unveiled the calendar for future IAP2 events in 2011.

IAP2 Leadership Breakfast Series - Transforming Outrage into Collaboration
We learnt from Stephani Roy McCallum and Gale Simpson’s vast and interesting experience about identifying when conflict will occur, managing conflict once it has occurred and transforming outrage into collaboration.
Stephani and Gale shared their framework for identifying and working with conflict in community engagement. Participants walked away from this breakfast inspired by the rich stories and experiences of these great speakers, gained an insight into their practical knowledge for identifying when conflict is emerging and recognised how to transform outrage into cooperation.

Stories of Conflict
IAP2 and LEADR, the Association of Dispute Resolution practitioners, hosted an intimate night to learn from each other and leading practitioners about practical techniques to work with conflict. Participants had an opportunity to get to know other practitioners and share practice. They also heard leading edge techniques from some experts in the field that have made them leading practitioners.

Tips, tools and techniques for facilitating community engagement
We joined Dr Crispin Butteriss from Bang the Table in Victoria to gain ‘insider secrets’ on engaging your community online. Together with a range of WA’s own community engagement, facilitation and communication specialists, we saw some of the best tools of the trade put to use by leading practitioners across the private and public sectors.

Public Participation and Place Making in Unstructured Settings
We joined David Engwicht from Creative Communities International at this innovative breakfast workshop for an instant two-hour re-imagining of an under-utilised amphitheatre in Melville. This was not a lecture, but an on-site event – a spontaneous ‘theatre of the possible’ that engaged the imagination of participants.

Engaging in the Super City
As the seven councils in Auckland prepared to come together into the Auckland Council from 1 November 2010, IAP2 Australasia President Anne Pattillo was with us to address the challenges facing the Auckland region, and how the approach taken to engaging with communities fits with the national and international practice. Anne was joined at this breakfast session by a panel of engagement experts that delivered some key messages that challenged and inspired.
