Influencing Through Authentic Leadership
5 Apr 2011

Online registrations for this event have now closed. If you would like to attend please call IAP2 on +61 3 9844 5499 or email info@iap2.org.au.

Regardless of the team or business someone works in, or what type of stakeholder relations or public participation process you’re planning, as a leader you need to be able to lead and engage for action. To influence stakeholders doesn’t necessarily mean you telling them what to do.

An Authentic Leader knows his or her strengths and engages others in their team or organisation using their authenticity. Equipped with these insights, the Authentic Leader can engage others to perform.

Authentic Leadership is a growing area of executive development, which management consultants are increasingly training corporate teams in. IAP2 Australasia’s Northern Region has been able to secure someone to give you insights into your authenticity that you can use back at work.

What makes you a leader?

Stephen Drain
AUT Centre for Innovative Leadership aspires to be New Zealand’s premier leadership
development centre. The Centre supports organisational success through leadership development and team effectiveness with its public and tailored courses and workshops. The Centre’s week-long Authentic Leadership Course open to commercial, public and not-for profit senior leaders challenges participants - “what makes you a leader?”.

Complementary authentic leadership, functional, first 90-days and career coaching is offered. Being part of New Zealand’s university for the changing world, the Centre balances theory with application and builds on current research and thinking. The team of experienced facilitators, registered psychologists and qualified leadership coaches pride themselves on delivering innovative and authentic service with sustainable outcomes.

Stephen Drain is the Director the AUT Centre for Innovative Leadership. He developed and runs the Centre’s Authentic Leadership Course, Strategic Thinking for Leaders public workshop and has developed tailored programmes for leadership teams. He facilitates and coaches executives and senior teams. Previously, Stephen was Chief Operating Officer at a private leadership training company.

Stephen has an MBA and a post graduate Diploma in Business (Finance) from the University of Auckland, a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors and is a qualified practitioner in two personality profiling instruments - the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, FIRO-B and three leadership behaviour feedback tools.

His particular interests are Authentic Leadership, Strategic Thinking, Organisational Learning and Developing People. Stephen is a member of the Institute of Directors, the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand and the New Zealand Association of Psychological Type.

Stephen is a trustee of BLENNZ, the Blind and Low Vision Education Network NZ (Homai) and enjoys distance running, blogging about leadership and the movies.
