Congratulations Core Values Award Winners

Government projects have swept the 2009 Core Values Awards for Australasia, taking out all five of this years categories.

The 2009 Core Values Award winners are:

  • Public Participation Enhanced Decision Making – BBS Public Relations for Northshore Hamilton Urban Development Area
    Highly Commended: Uralla Shire Council for Uralla Climate Change Consensus Project
  • Robust Public Participation Process – Urban Land Development Authority for Northshore Hamilton Urban Development Area
    Highly Commended: Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management
  • Best Public Participation Policy Framework – Department of Planning and Community Development, Victoria for Community Engagement Strategy Project
  • Public Participation Innovation (new award) – newDemocracy for Australian Citizens’ Parliament
    Highly Commended: Nature Conservation Council of NSW for NSW Climate Consensus Project
  • Public Participation for Decision Makers (new award) – Gold Coast City Council for Bold Future

IAP2 Australasia President Anne Pattillo praised the entrants and said they exemplified excellence in the way they engaged the community in decision making around key issues affecting them. “Engaging the community is a crucial step in making sure our governments make good public policy that actively incorporates the needs of the community,” she said. “By asking the community what they want, and by seeking all members of a community to get involved, we tend to make better, lasting decisions. This years entrants demonstrate that government projects are very proactive and innovative in their approach to community engagement.”
